Home and away

Starting today, students who registered for football tickets and paid their deposit last spring, can swing by Stegeman Coliseum to pick up their coveted passes.
We think the lottery method is a fantastic idea, and not waiting in line for three hours — or more — just to buy tickets is very appealing, but there still is room for improvement.
Home game ticket retrieval is the best situation we can ask for, but away game ticket registration is still a pain.
When away-tickets registration takes place each spring, students — who have classes and exams — must camp out because there is fierce competition for the first-come, first-serve tickets. Camping out and establishing a sense of camaraderie for your team is great — for about an hour.
When the lines get long, and the air gets cold, suddenly camping out for clearance into a football game seems a lot less entertaining.
Home ticket registration is so convenient, why not institute the same plan for away tickets?
Instead of forcing students to camp out one night each spring, another lottery should be held the same day tickets are currently sold.
Students could stop by the Coliseum on their ways to class, have their UGACards scanned and be on their way.
We know there are fewer tickets to away games, but this method would be just as fair as first-come, first-serve, and much less costly — time wise, as well as financially.
An away-game lottery would cause less hassle for students, as well as for campus security, who is usually on-hand during current registration to supress fights and unruly behavior, which are often problems during camp outs.
Many students have tests on Mondays — when tickets go on sale — and are unable to support both the football team and their GPAs.
Allow us to support both. The University needs to help students who want to cheer on their team and ace their exams. It would only benefit everyone involved if we put an excellent plan that already exists to work for another program.
