Former bandmates share single stage at Tasty World
After a band breaks up, it’s a bit of a rarity that its members can get past their differences and work together on each other’s new material.
Formerly of Athens band, Conflict of Interest, Nathan Beaver, Mike Killeen and Matt Maudsley have been able to do just that.
“Conflict of Interest eventually became like a bad relationship that you grow too dependent on,” said guitarist Matt Maudsley. “Now, we can all do our own thing but still work together.”
Beaver’s energetic, acoustic music often has been featured weekends at downtown restaurant DePalma’s under the moniker “Saturday Night Beaver.”
Maudsley said Beaver has been influenced by singer-songwriters such as James Taylor and David Wilcox.
“Even though Nathan plays pretty laid-back music, he is very intelligent and knows how to lay down the rock,” said Maudsley.
Harmonica player Mike Killeen, whose music has been described as having a Dylanesque-vibe, is into a lot of alt-country stuff like Uncle Tupelo, Wilco and Son Volt, Maudsley said.
The last (but certainly not least) of the high-octane trio of musical collaborators, self-proclaimed “flame-thrower guitarist,” Matt Maudsley, draws inspiration from the soulful roots-rock of the Black Crowes, he said.
If you’ve yet to experience these three musicians in action, they will be taking the Tasty World stage tonight at 9.
Killeen will be kicking things off before Beaver performs later in the night.
And Maudsley will be intermittently dispersed throughout the show, he said.
There should be a variety of styles showcased during the performance as Beaver, Killeen and Maudsley float back and forth between rock, blues, introspective folk-pop and other genres.
“Whether we ever get famous or not, we’ll still be playing in our living rooms at two in the morning,” said Maudsley. “The satisfaction comes from playing, not from the money.”
