In celebration of Black History Month, the University Union’s Performing Arts Division and the Committee for Black Cultural Programs (CBCP) join forces to bring two powerful icons of the theatrical world to the University.
Danny Glover and Felix Justice are coming to the University tonight at 8 to perform dramatic interpretations of the works of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Langston Hughes. Tickets are $5 for students and $15 for others.
Felix Justice will deliver several riveting Dr. King speeches, which will be followed by Danny Glover’s dramatic reading of Langston Hughes’ poetry.
The night will close with a question and answer session where audience members will be encouraged to discuss the works with the actors.
“I think it is going to be a really powerful performance,” said Nathan Copeland, University Union President. “Danny Glover seems to be one of those great guys that everyone can relate to, and I look forward to hearing Felix Justice’s deliveries of Dr. King’s speeches.”
The Performing Arts division became aware of Glover and Justice’s dramatic act last year and contacted the CBCP about jointly sponsoring a program for this year’s Black History Month.
“We’re really lucky to have people of their caliber to allow people to take part in this,” said University Union Program Advisor, Kevin McKee.
Members of the committee, which provides programs and activities for the campus community that reflect social, educational and cultural achievements and experiences of blacks, said they agree.
“I believe that this will be a program that will prove to be entertaining and educational, and will benefit anybody who comes,” said CBCP division coordinator, Realenn Watters.
