“Brumby Butt” inappropriate article

I am stunned an article about butts appeared in the Red & Black on Jan. 18.

As offended as I am, I’m more horrified by the thought of some visiting high schooler or alum opening up my college’s award-winning newspaper to read a quote like “The butts look better than they did in high school.”

Guys ogling a girl’s butt is not news and it definitely isn’t the caliber of journalism The Red & Black supposedly aspires to.

Paper shockingly demeaned women

I have always found The Red & Black to be a very informative, professional newspaper. This is why I was so shocked and disgusted to see an article all about girls’ butts.

Not only is this a totally irrelevant subject, but it’s extremely demeaning to women.

Absurd claims made about dorm

Being a person who tries to give people the benefit of the doubt, I assured myself that The Red & Black surely took pride in selection criteria for what is and is not published and distributed on behalf of the University campus population.

Well, I was proven wrong when I read the article about the “Brumby Butt”.

Yes, some moron actually brainstormed, wrote, proofread and had an article dedicated to the derriere resulting from daily jaunts to and fro campus to Brumby Hall.

Am I being ridiculous in my bewilderment?

Does anyone else think that this article is ubelievably stupid?

I have a vague conception of what is and what isn’t newsworthy, and in my book the great butt one gets from living in Brumby hall is not.

I hereby propose that a woman (perhaps myself) submit an article to The Red & Black proclaiming that men who live in all-male residential communities have developed huge penises, capable of mesmerizing flocks of women and envied by coed residential men.

I know it would never published, but I thought you all should know what a stupid decision it was to publish that article.
