Five fire trucks responded to a fire at the Hodgson Terrace Building at Five Points on South Milledge Avenue Wednesday afternoon.

The fire began when an electrical wire in the elevator shaft shorted out, fire officials said.

The power went out at about 4:30 p.m. and the fire alarm went off about 20 minutes later, said Kimberly Rogers, a resident in the building and University alumna.

Condo owner and University alum Wes Rogers said he e-mailed several county officials Wednesday morning before the fire, expressing his concern that the building is not up to code.

Hodgson Terrace opened in the summer of 2006 and is a mixed-use building with residential condos and businesses.

Officials present were unable to give an estimate of the amount of damage Wednesday evening.
