Georgia’s No. 1 ranked men’s tennis team moved outdoors and improved its record to 9-0 with a 7-0 shutout of Furman (4-5).
“It is never a smooth ride your first time outside. I think it was a
good first time out for us. We did a pretty good job of staying
focused,” coach Manuel Diaz said.
The Bulldogs wasted little time establishing dominance as Luis Flores and Nate Schnugg scored an 8-0 victory in roughly 30 minutes. The No. 5 duo of Matic Omerzel and Travis Helgeson clinched the doubles point with an 8-5 win.
Ricardo Gonzalez, returning from injury to see his first action since the SEC Indoors, and Josh Varela had an 8-6 win to cap off the doubles sweep.
Georgia picked up singles wins from No. 3 John Isner, No. 13 Helgeson, No. 9 Flores, No. 20 Omerzel, Gonzalez, and Varela in that order. All matches in the singles competition were decided in straight sets.

The No. 18-ranked Georgia softball team (11-6) fell to No. 21 Nebraska (7-5) 2-1 in the Bronze Bracket championship game at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus on Sunday.
A solo home run by the Cornhuskers’ Devin Porter in the top of the seventh inning was the difference, as the Bulldogs finished the weekend with a 2-3 record.
Sophomore pitcher Christie Hamilton picked up the loss, while senior shortstop Alison Horne drove in Georgia’s only run of the game.
