Diamond Dogs fall to Jackets on road

Entering Wednesday’s in-state grudge match, the Diamond Dogs believed that a win against Georgia Tech could once again be what was needed to spark a late-season rally.
Instead, as has been the case more often than not this spring,, they are left frustrated and searching for an answer.
A bevy of walks and errors allowed Georgia Tech to easily coast past Georgia (13-24) to an 8-2 win at Russ Chandler Stadium.
The Yellow Jackets (23-14) took advantage of leadoff walks in both the third and fourth innings, leading to a 6-0 lead on which they would never look back.
Ryan Peisel’s second homer in the last three games gave the Diamond Dogs momentary life in the sixth, cutting it to 6-2, but Georgia could not muster much after that.
The offensive struggles were prominent early on as well, as Georgia grounded into three inning-ending double plays in the first four innings.
“We just weren’t very competitive tonight…pitching, defense or at the plate” head coach David Perno said.
Although the Diamond Dogs have shown signs of brilliance thus far, the inconsistency has Perno defining his team as one searching for its identity.
“It’s hard with this team, because you see so much inconsistent play that it’s hard to find the right mix,” he said. “We’re a tough team to read.”
The Diamond Dogs, who have now lost their last three at Tech, will get another shot at the Jackets Tuesday at Turner Field.
Before the chance to avenge tonight’s defeat, Georgia will face a stiff test from SEC leader and national No. 4 Arkansas (29-10, 11-4 SEC) at Foley Field this weekend.
