Deadline to reapply for HOPE extended to Dec. 3

By on November 26, 2007

Some students who receive the HOPE scholarship will have to repay fall and summer tuition if they do not reapply for HOPE by Dec. 3. The original deadline was Tuesday, but the Office of Student Financial Aid extended the deadline after creating “consternation” among the student body.

The OSFA sent an e-mail to some students Nov. 20 notifying them of changes to the scholarship regulations. Those who did not get the e-mail do not need to worry about reapplying.

According to the e-mail, students who were awarded the HOPE Scholarship based on a prior year Free Application for Federal Student Aid or e-HOPE application must now reapply for the HOPE Scholarship using the new electronic application called the GSFAPPS.

To fill out the GSFAPPS application, students create an account through the Web site www.gacollege411.org.

The GSFAPPS application can be found under a link on the profile labeled “Applications and Transcripts.”

According to the e-mail, the process “only takes minutes to complete online.”

The Nov. 20 e-mail was the only notification alerting students they need to reapply. The e-mail was sent exactly one week prior to the application due date. If students do not complete the application on time, their HOPE scholarship will be canceled, and they will have to pay tuition covered by HOPE for fall and summer semesters.
