Student: not guilty of drug possession

By on February 21, 2008

University student Julianne Robbins Tamplin, 22, pleaded not guilty to charges of possession of cocaine Wednesday morning at Athens-Clarke County Superior Court.

Tamplin appeared at the preliminary hearing with her parents and attorney, Kim Stephens.

In response to Tamplin’s not guilty plea, Superior Court Judge Jones scheduled her next hearing for March 24.

Tamplin’s appearance on Wednesday was in response to her Nov. 3, 2007, arrest. She and University student Timothy Sanders Wallis, 22, were arrested and charged with felony possession of cocaine during a party at the Classic Center.

The arresting police officer, K. Beavers, cited in a police report he saw and heard the students snorting cocaine from a small bottle with white powder inside.

Tamplin’s drug test, taken later in the day on Nov. 3, showed negative for drugs, according to medical records from The Summit Healthplex in Newnan.

The Office of Judicial Programs placed Tamplin on probation until her graduation for knowingly condoning “another student’s violation of the Code of Conduct.”
