Northern duo looks to break the curse

It probably suffices to say that popular music has not been especially subdued when it comes to male/female duos – whether it’s tragedy (The Carpenters), tackiness (The Captain and Tennille) or true love and a weekly televised talent show (Sonny and Cher). For better or worse, the formula always has tended to find itself shuffling toward demise. With any luck, Baltimore’s Beach House may be able to break the curse.
The breaking-out blog band of Alex Scally and Victoria LeGrand may not be necessarily breaking the mold, but it’s certainly taking it down a few notches with soft, ornate songs that make days and nights something from a dream world. Keys, electronic twinkles and Legrand’s subtle singable sounds were made for the dead of the night while the moon glows over golden sands. Throw away the tawdry male/female duos of generations past and settle into this Beach House for a project that’s pleasant, productive and incredibly and effortlessly pretty.
