Reports: Uga VII to make first appearance at opening game
Sonny Seiler, whose family has been in control of the Georgia mascot line for 52 years, said the unveiling of the latest Uga is not expected until the opening football game against Georgia Southern.
Seiler told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Monday the family has some decisions to make before showing off Uga VII to the world.
“We have several alternatives and we haven’t even had a chance to sit down as a family to review them all,” Seiler told the AJC. “We don’t just throw a dart at a board.”
In the past, the new mascot was introduced during picture day, which this year is tentatively set for Aug. 16. But Seiler told the AJC that Uga VII isn’t expected at that event this year.
“Oh no, that wouldn’t be fair,” Seiler told the AJC. “That would be cheating the 92,000 fans who buy tickets and travel to Athens for the game. We think that’s the appropriate place and time to introduce Uga to the world.”
