UGA Gmail?

EITS is taking suggestions from students concerning a new platform for University students. If you’re always on Gchat or adore Microsoft Live, make your voice heard. We’re glad they’re listening to students’ concerns and thoughts – after all, most of us already forward our e-mail to another account.

Ask Seth what?

ugaMiracle took campus by storm on Wednesday, covering sidewalks and traffic signs with the phrase, “Ask Seth.” The Red & Black supports ugaMiracle’s cause, but its aggressive public relations scheme leaves much to be desired. Ground maintenance workers were especially bothered, and unfortunately, the clean-up costs likely will come directly from ugaMiracle – draining valuable funds that could have been used to help Seth and other sick children.

When the sun goes down in Georgia

Corey Smith, a local singer and songwriter, is performing tonight at Legion Field at 7:30 to benefit ugaMiracle. It’s a great opportunity to enjoy some live music outdoors and help out a great philanthropy. The University holds a special place in Smith’s heart, and his live show – complete with electric guitar – is sure to be a treat.

Red alert

The University didn’t notify students, faculty and staff that a Monday night attempted armed robbery happened on North Campus until Wednesday morning. Because the men who held up a University student got away, this could have escalated beyond an isolated incident. In the future, we hope the University lets us know our 10 p.m. stroll from the library to the North Deck could be interrupted by gunmen. After all, armed robbers on campus pose more of a threat than a possible tornado.

Post-grad programs

Teach For America applications are due today. For those who want to spend their first two years post-college working to improve communities throughout America, this is a great opportunity. Other non-traditional post-graduation programs to check out include the JET Program and Peace Corps.

Hitting the old dusty trail

The Bulldogs are traveling west to take on the Arizona State Sun Devils Saturday. This is their first trip west of Texas since 1967, and will ensure the Dogs national exposure, as it will be shown on primetime television on ABC. Though the game adds to their already tough schedule, it could help with recognition and recruiting, as well as give our players a chance to take SEC football to the Pac 10. Go Dogs!

Quote of the week: “Yeah I get made fun of but my comeback’s always, ‘Nobody’s going to know I had braces once I get them off, I’ll just have that perfect smile. That big money smile.’”

- Sophomore linebacker Rennie Curran about whether or not he gets teased for having braces.
