Boutique hosts ‘Sex and the City’ release party

“Sex and the City” is going blonde for a celebration of friendship, high fashion and New York City.
Blonde, a boutique in Five Points, is hosting an all day “Sex and the City” DVD release party today that will feature trivia, a dress-up contest and pink drinks with matching cupcakes.
The party was completely planned in a week by blonde intern and University student Katie Deray.
Deray, a junior fashion merchandising major from Savannah, hopes the party will introduce blonde to the “regular” university women who may have never been into the boutique.
“I think people will really love the party and it is a great way to publicize the store,” she said. “I would really like to get more of the average UGA girls to blonde and not just the Greek life so it can be a more diverse base of all different economic status groups.”
According to blonde owner Brandy Chandler, she is excited that the party is a way to have fun with the movie that “inspired” everyone who works at her store and celebrate the edgy and contemporary “Sex and the City” fashions that blonde carries.
“We are a little different than the other stores in town because we maybe aren’t as preppy and traditional and we try to push the boundaries a bit,” Chandler said. “So (the Sex and the City party) was just a really good fit for blonde as a store.”
While the movie will be playing all day in the store, the first ten customers of the day and the winners of the two trivia contests will each receive a complimentary DVD as their prize.

But, DVDs are not the only prizes that blonde has incorporated into the party’s activities. The dress-up competition is planned to be the culmination of the festivities with a winner receiving a $200 blonde gift card.
“You basically just dress up as a character and whoever best embodies their chosen person will win the gift card to blonde,” Deray said. “I think the dress-up contest will just take the party that much farther and make it that much more fun.”
The store is even making it convenient for women to find clothes that resemble the style of each of the four Sex and the City ladies by organizing some of the blonde clothes by which of the characters’ closets they resemble more.
“I think its natural to identify with one of the characters or another because those four characters are a really good basis for the whole country and you just sort of fits into one,” Chandler said. “I think I may go as Carrie. I haven’t planned it yet but I think I may just wake up and it be a Carrie-kind-of day.”
