‘Animation Domination’ takes to the airwaves Sunday

By on September 26, 2008

This Sunday marks the season premiere of FOX’s “Animation Domination” lineup which includes The Simpsons, King of the Hill, Family Guy, and American Dad. It looks as though Sunday will start with gut-busting laughter but won’t last through the end of the fourth episode of FOX’s lineup.

The Simpsons

This yellow-skinned family starts off strong with a surprisingly funny episode that shows why “The Simpsons” has been on the air for over a decade. Homer and Flanders team up as bounty hunters who find people that skip out on their bail. The two put away their differences, but only return to bickering back and forth like always. The best part would have to be the ridiculous chase scene near the end that could only be done in a cartoon like “The Simpsons.”

King of the Hill

Another long-running television series, “King of the Hill” is more like a sitcom with the pseudo-normal situations that are made quite funny. In this episode, Bill becomes diabetic because of all the sweets he gobbles up per second, and a doctor scares him into thinking he will lose his legs. He buys himself a wheelchair and gets accepted into a group of athletic paraplegics. “King of the Hill” manages to pull off these jokes tastefully, mostly making fun of how dumb Bill is throughout the episode.

Family Guy

This is where the series of animated premieres starts to go downhill. “Family Guy” has been off its game for a while now, and this new season looks to be no different. Brian is back in the dating scene, but Stewie advises him to take it slow this time. This leads to the girl he’s dating to lose interest and eventually shack up with Cleveland. There are a few laughs, but not much good can be said about this episode. They are trying too hard and seem to mostly go for shock value.

American Dad

Steve gets his first pube! If that doesn’t get you excited, well. it’s understandable. His parents don’t want to suffer through his teenage years of puberty, so they use a serum to make him older, then younger again, and then back to his normal age, all while he’s trying to get a date for the school dance. Seth MacFarlane’s other show also goes for the shock value laughs and tends to try too hard. It’s an unnecessarily quirky cast that doesn’t add up to comedy. Don’t suffer through this garbage.
