Crimewatch: Jan. 21-Feb. 18
The following was reported by the Athens-Clarke County police:
University student John Middleton Simmons, 18, was arrested and charged with underage possession of alcohol and unlawful use of license outside El Centro on Feb. 13 between 12:40 and 12:50 a.m. The arresting officer noted that after Simmons was rejected from El Centro, he waited a few minutes and went into Roadhouse Bar.
University student Christopher Joshua Benton, 20, was arrested and charged with underage possession of alcohol on Feb. 13 between 1:25 and 1:52 a.m. on Appleby Drive. Benton is a variety writer for The Red & Black.
University student Michael Paul Dausen, 23, was arrested and charged with public intoxication on Feb. 13 between 1:44 and 1:51 a.m. on Jackson Street.
University student Lauren Marie Kennedy, 19, was arrested at the intersection of Broad Street and Lumpkin Street and charged with underage possession of alcohol and open container on Feb. 14 between 12:18 and 12:21 a.m. The arresting officer saw Kennedy drinking from a plastic cup in the back seat of a car. The officer tasted the drink, which tested positive for alcohol.
University student John Thomas Orr, 19, was arrested and charged with underage possession of alcohol and open container on Feb. 14 on College Ave. at 1:10 a.m.
University student Austin Alan Wyatt, 18, was arrested on Feb. 14 and charged with underage possession for alcohol between 1:35 and 1:46 a.m. on East Clayton Street. Wyatt had been kicked out a bar and tried to fight his friends when they pulled him to leave.
University student Gil Morris Jordan, 23, was arrested at the intersection of Bloomfield Street and Cloverhurst Avenue and charged with DUI at 1:50 a.m. on Feb. 14. The arrest was part of a sobriety checkpoint operation, and Jordan was arrested under implied consent.
University student Michael Taylor Barman, 20, was arrested outside of City Bar and charged with underage consumption of alcohol on Feb. 14 between 1:50 and 2:05 a.m. The arresting officer recognized Barman from a previous arrest, and knew Barman was not 21.
University student Jeno Anthony Pelerose was the victim of criminal trespass of property at the Phi Kappa Psi house on Feb. 14 between 2 and 2:26 a.m. Three of Pelerose’s tires were slashed.
University student Alexandra Lynn Kerr, 22, was arrested and the intersection of Prince Avenue and Pulaski Street and charged with DUI and no headlights on Feb. 14.
According to the police report: The officer said she seemed disoriented, but said she had no alcohol in her system. After a field sobriety test, Kerr said she had a few drinks earlier in the night. Kerr was arrested under implied consent. The three passengers in Kerr’s car, all who were 21, were all unfit to drive. They were unsuccessful at making contact with a sober friend, and had to walk home.
University student Nichole McCollum reported financial transaction card fraud and theft on Feb. 14 between 2:30 and 3 a.m. McCollum said she lost the following in a taxi cab: $30 red Fossil wallet, a Visa Starbucks credit card, and Bank of America card, and Georgia driver’s license and a UGA ID. There were two fraudulent charges on her cards – one at Kangaroo Express for $129 and one at Walmart for $212.05.
Gainesville State student William Lee Kasonovitch was charged with drug charges after a police officer reported to his house about a robbery. Kasonovitch’s mother told ACC police to check on her son at his home in Patriot Park apartments in reference to a robbery on Feb. 15 between 1 and 2 a.m.
When the arresting officer made contact with Kasonovitch, Kasonovitch said he had not been robbed. Later in the night Kasonovitch called ACC police and said he was actually robbed of $250 in cash, a Georgia Driver’s license, a credit/debit card and $120 Birkenstock sandals. Kasonovitch said when he exited his car three males came up behind him and started to hit him. Kasonovtich curled into the fetal position on the ground, and his wallet was taken. Kasonvitch called his mother after the incident, who initially told him to not call the authorities since he could not identify the perpetrators. As Kasonovitch filled out a police report, the arresting officer noticed seven glass pipes, along with stems and pieces of marijuana, in the immediate vicinity. Kasonovitch admitted to casually smoking marijuana, and was arrested.
University student Colleen Sloan reported criminal trespass to property on between 5 p.m. on Feb. 10 and 5 p.m. on Feb. 13.
“MG” was painted on a $15 wood door.
University student Kiara Wood reported a theft by taking from the Classic Center on Feb. 13 between 8 and 11 p.m. A $400 cell phone, $10 driver’s license and $35 cash was taken. Wood said she left her purse on a table with a bunch of coats and purses. When she went to retrieve her bag, it was gone. The purse was found in the men’s room without the aforementioned items.
University student Taylor Rhodes reported a theft by taking from 893 Boulevard between 3 p.m. on Feb. 14 and 11 a.m. on Feb. 15. Rhodes’ $40 orange bike was stolen.
Rhodes said earlier in the week a man had knocked on her door and asked if “John” was home. Rhodes does not live with anyone named John, but the man said he was supposed to meet him there.
University employee Bryan Varin reported a theft by taking from Willow Run between 2 a.m. on Feb. 14 and 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 15.
Varin said he was downtown with his wife when they met two males outside Georgia Bar. The males offered the couple a ride home, and Varin agreed. Once at Varin’s residence, Varin invited the males inside. They started to talk about guns and hunting, so Varin brought out his $2,500 Colt .45 WWII era pistol. Varin noticed the next day that the pistol was gone.
University student Jonathon Fausel reported federal transaction card theft from the Omni Club on Feb. 16 between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.
A $40 black Tommy Hilfiger leather wallet, $15 in cash, a driver’s license and four credit cards were taken from a locker in the club locker room.
John Davis Dedwylder, 19, was arrested at Jimbo’s gas station and charged with possession of a controlled substance and underage possession of alcohol on Feb. 18 between 1:44 and 1:50 a.m. The arresting officer saw Dedwylder stumbling, asked him for identification and handcuffed him after a field sobriety test. During a routine search, a bottle with marijuana in it was found.
Leroy Aaron Coronado reported financial transaction card fraud and theft by taking at Cutter’s Pub between 4 p.m. on Feb. 12 and 2:47 a.m. on Feb. 13. An unknown suspect charged $68.50 to Coronado’s credit card at Cutter’s Pub.
The University Episcopal Center reported a burglary between Feb. 16 at 2 p.m. and Feb. 18 at 4 p.m. A $200 silver box with a cross on it and a $200 silver candle was taken. There were signs of forced entry with a hammer. There are two named suspects.
The following was reported by the University police:
A University employee reported a theft by taking from the Miller Plant Sciences building on Feb. 17 between 9 and 11 a.m. A leather bag containing headphones and two jump drives, totaling $410 in value, were taken.
University student William F. McFetridge, 26, was arrested in the Human Resources Lot and charged with suspended license on Feb. 18 at 5:26 p.m.
A University student reported receiving terroristic threats from a known individual on Feb. 16 at 1:14 a.m. at the Fine Arts building.
A University student reported a theft by taking from Ramsey on Feb. 16 between 10 and 11 a.m. A Motorola phone, North Face jacket and keys, valued at $201 in total, were taken.
A University employee reported a theft by taking from the Lamar Dodd School of Art on Jan. 21 between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. A wallet and contents, valued at $186, was taken.
A University student reported his vehicle was stuck in the railroad lot between 1 p.m. on Feb. 11 and 1 p.m. on Feb. 13.
There was a burglary at the Hoke Smith Annex between 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 12 and 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 13. $1000 in U.S. currency was stolen.
A University student reported losing her wallet and keys, totaling $355 in value, in the Biology building on Feb. 13 between 10:02 a.m. and 12:20 p.m.
A University student reported an unattended wallet and contents, valued at $19, was taken from the Law School on Feb. 14 at 2:15 p.m.
University student Jared Lloyd Carollo, 23, was arrested and charged with DUI and driving too fast for conditions on Oconee Street on Feb. 15 at 4:12 a.m.
There was a theft by taking and criminal trespass at Joe Brown Hall between 4 p.m. on Feb. 11 and 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 12. A Dell laptop was stolen, and a security cable was damaged, totaling a $1,200 loss.
A vehicle was struck in the Hoke Smith parking lot between 5:15 p.m. on Feb. 4 and 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 11.
University student Jaclyn Ann Nottage, 22, was arrested and charged with failure to obey traffic control and permit restriction violation on Feb. 13 at 3:25 p.m. at the intersection of Broad and Hull.
A University employee reported her vehicle was struck at the Vet School on Feb. 11 between 7:30 and 9:20 a.m.
A University student reported a theft by taking from Ramsey on Feb. 11 between 4:30 and 5:45 p.m. A bag and contents, worth $493, was taken.
A University student reported her vehicle was struck in the West Deck on Feb. 11 between 5:00 and 8:02 p.m.
University student Ransome Wilson Sheets, 20, was arrested and charged with DUI, underage possession of alcohol, failure to maintain lane and a red light violation on Feb. 12 at 2:44 a.m. on Carlton Street.
Homeless man Pratt Robert reported a robbery and simple battery in the Rolling Ridge Apartment complex on Feb. 13 between 10:46 and 11:25 p.m. Robert said four to five males beat him and then took a blue Tommy Hilfiger bag, a blanket and a pillow. Robert said he was in the complex looking for a female acquaintance he had met five months before. He did not know her name or apartment number.
The items were recovered later next to a building within the complex.
