David Poythress: Georgia needs plan for water and education

Our nation’s current economic drought is “the worst since the Great Depression,” David Poythress, candidate for governor, said in his address to the Young Democrats last night in the Miller Learning Center.
“We need a plan for the next 50 years in both water and education,” he said. “We need to get ahead of these issues before they decline further.”
Pothyress said our nation must also change our approach to education. He said there has been little effort to accommodate alternative learning in classroom settings and using technology could help.
He also spoke about the need for reform in the health care system to provide more trauma centers and education in the prison system.
“Make educational resources available to prisoners to allow them to better both their abilities as well as morale for prisoners to increase their success upon release.”
Poythress also expressed his support for alcohol sales on Sundays and stem-cell research, calling it the “most-exciting” movement in research in the nation.
Students in attendance said they appreciated Poythress taking the time to talk to youth.
“It means a lot to me that he would take his time to talk to college students and engage them in the process,” said Jill Turner, a sophomore international affairs major from Tyrone.
