ATLANTA - The first dual track meet in more than 16 years between two bitter rivals did not disappoint. On a rainy night that saw about as many lead changes as raindrops, Georgia’s track and field prevailed in both men’s and women’s events against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

The No. 12 Georgia men won with a final score of 104-98, while the Georgia women’s squad won 103-96.

“We had Georgia Tech winning [on the women's side] coming into tonight, so we are very proud of our girls for coming back and showing great effort,” said head coach Wayne Norton. “Our men also did a good job hanging in there for the win against a good Georgia Tech team. This really has been a great event for us . and it will definitely give us something to build on for the future.”

Javelin once again was a strong point for Georgia, as it took three of the top four places on the women’s side – with Michelle Thompson taking first (150 feet, eight inches). Chris Hill, the 2008 NCAA javelin champion, won the event for the men by attempting only one throw.

Other events in which Georgia’s women found overwhelming success were the 1,500-meter run, 100-meter dash, and the 3,000-meter run. The Bulldog men did well in the 4 x 100 meter dash, the 100-meter dash and the hammer throw – led by senior sprinter Michael Proctor and sophomore thrower Branislav Danis.

Sophomore Georgina Nembhard won the women’s 100-meter and 200-meter dashes for Georgia. Senior All-American Justin Gaymon was dominant in the hurdles for the men, winning the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdle races.
