EUGENE, Ore. — Former Georgia track and field standout Reese Hoffa finished third in the shot put during the final day of the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., on Sunday. In addition, Justin Gaymon, a senior for the Bulldogs in 2009, finished sixth in the 400-meter hurdle finals.
Bulldog riders excel at reining championships

Georgia riders Kate Stewart and Nichole Grant completed their Bulldog careers in outstanding fashion last weekend when they competed at the National Collegiate Reining Championship in Oklahoma City.
The Collegiate Reining championship brings together the top 12 performers from the Varsity National meet, as well as the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association nationals.
Bulldogs place 18th in Directors’ Cup

Spearheaded by a gymnastics national championship and several top-10 team finishes, Georgia finished 18th in the 2008-09 Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup competition which annually measures the nation’s most successful athletics programs. Georgia finished 10th last year.

Former UGA golfer wins on Hooters Tour

Former University golfer David Miller holed out a wedge shot on the 72nd hole to win his first NGA Hooters Tour event at the Bentonville Open in Arkansas.
The former Bulldog carded rounds of 62-70-68-64 to post a 20-under par 264.

EUGENE, Ore. – Headlined by Justin Gaymon’s advancement to the finals, a host of Bulldogs continued their competition at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., on Saturday night. Gaymon was one of eight hurdlers to advance to the 400-meter hurdle finals.
Incoming UGA law student named Miss Georgia

Emily Cook, who was recently accepted into the University’s Law School, was crowned Miss Georgia Sunday, the day after a Gwinnett County woman relinquished the post.
Gwinnett County school teacher Kristina Higgins was named the winner of the crown Saturday night in Columbus, but stepped down because she said her responsibilities as a middle school teacher would not leave her time to serve as Miss Georgia.
Weekend DUI checkpoints net 48 arrests

Law enforcement officials from Athens-Clarke County, Georgia State Patrol and the University Police Department staged two sobriety checkpoints during AthFest weekend, netting almost 50 arrests for Driving Under the Influence and more than 100 other citations.
