Fun to be had during Athens’ sleepy summer

Got the summer school blues?

Don’t just sit around Facebook stalking all your friends who are studying abroad or vacationing. There’s so much to do in Athens. Here are some alternative things to do you might not know about:

ATHICA: Athens Institute for Contemporary Art. Just north of downtown, it’s a space to discover new, engaging, innovative artwork. Whether you’re art savvy or not, this place is great to get yourself some culture. ATHICA is only open Thursday-Sunday – find their hours at www.athica.org.

Geocaching: The big kid hide-and-seek game! Go to www.geocaching.com, make a free account, and then look up caches in the Athens area. People bury things all over the city and it’s your job to go find it, take the item that was left, and replace it with an item you think someone would like to find.

Sandy Creek Park: This place has everything! A fifteen minute drive past the loop on Commerce Rd, you can fish, play disc golf, ride horses, canoe/kayak, all for just a $2 entry fee for ACC residents. Their hours are 7am – 9pm during the summer. Seriously, this place is awesome! Go to www.sandycreekpark.com for more details.

Athens Disc Golf: Speaking of disc golf, if you’re a fanatic, check out www.athensdiscgolf.com. For a fee of $1-2 per game, find the local courses and play with other disc golf junkies like yourself.
