Georgia fourth in SEC Freshmen Academic Honor Roll recipients
A total of 57 Georgia freshmen, fourth most in the SEC, were named to the league’s 2009 Freshmen Academic Honor Roll, it was announced Thursday by conference commissioner Mike Slive. South Carolina topped the list with 82 freshmen followed by Florida with 69 and Alabama with 58.
Combining the 2009 SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll, which includes upperclassmen, and the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll, 156 UGA student-athletes earned academic honor roll recognition in 2008-09, which was second most in the league.
The 2009 SEC Freshmen Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2008-09 academic calendar. Each student-athlete must 1.) have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship or a letter winner; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport’s entire NCAA Championship segment.
