The State Botanical Garden of Georgia is about to get more flowers, but instead of growing out of the ground, these hang from the wall.
The Gardens will host “Botanical Fantasy,” an art exhibit featuring the work of artist Veva S. Dunckel.
BOTANICAL FANTASY

Where: The State Botanical Garden
When: July 26 1:30-3:30 p.m. through Aug. 23
Price: Free
Dunckel has worked as a fabric designer and art teacher, and she owns her own needlework business. An avid painter, Dunckel is not afraid to explore with other media such as canvases, photographs and recycled materials.
The Botanical Fantasy series will showcase 22 paintings of flowers on traditional stretch canvas, as well as wood canvas.
“Since I paint flowers, the garden and the painting make a match ?- mother nature inside and out,” Dunckle said. “Having seen two friends with shows at the Botanical Gardens gallery I decided to exhibit there.”
Dunckel believes, though they portray only flowers, that her paintings are far from ordinary.
“I feel like the paintings are very beautiful and have a contemporary, unusual twist,” she said. “I use bright colors and not realistic flower forms; I like to add some geometric shapes emphasizing the flowers leaves and stems.”
As far as what the viewers can expect from the exhibit Dunckel has a specific, albeit brief idea in mind.
When asked what she wanted viewers’ reaction to be, Dunckel said, “Definitely happy.”
