Athica features acoustic players
Instead of its standard visual art galleries, Athica wants to try its hand at music with a special acoustic performance.
GUITARS AND THEIR GIRLS
When: 7 – 10 p.m. July 29
Where: Athica
Cost: Recommended donation of $6 to $9
The show, Guitars and Their Girls: An Evening of Original Acoustic Music, will feature performances from Heidi Hensley, Megan and the Klay Family Band and Chelsea Lynn La Bate.
Athens native Heidi Hensley’s music is a blend of indie rock, ’80s music and country.
The other out-of-town artists were selected by Athica director Erica Strout for their “notably Southern influences and very different styles.”
“I was impressed by how different they sound,” Strout said. “I feel like they both have very strong voices of their own.”
Megan Jean and the Klay Family Band has been performing since 2004. The folk duo will release its newest album, “Autumn,” in 2010.
“We try to make every song hit you in the square gut,” said singer Glemboski. “We’re a very all or nothing band.”
Chelsea Lynne La Bate, known for her “song stories,” strives to paint pictures with her words. Her musky voice and captivating music leaves audiences relaxed and stunned.
Her lyrics tend to deal with courage, disaster, suffering and the patterns of nature.
“It is really, for me, about connecting to people on a heart level,” said La Bate. “Presenting something pure and strong and uplifting to any broken parts that we may share.”
