Bulldogs ranked No. 13 in preseason AP poll
The Georgia football team wears a familiar ranking as The Associated Press released its preseason poll Saturday.
The Bulldogs are picked at No. 13, the same spot they hold in the USA Today/Coaches Poll, and open the season on the road against a top 10 opponent. Oklahoma State is tied for No. 9 (the team is No. 11 in the coaches poll), its highest preseason ranking since 1985 when it was ranked No. 16.
The Florida Gators sit atop the poll in record-making fashion, standing as the most overwhelming preseason No. 1 in the history of the poll. Florida received 58 of the 60 first-place votes, or 96.7 percent. Texas got the other first-place votes.
The previous highest percentage of first-place votes for the AP preseason poll, which started in 1950, was 95.4 percent for Southern California in 2007. Those Trojans got 62 of 65 first-place votes — and didn’t play for the national title.
Following Florida and Texas are Oklahoma, USC and Alabama. The Southeastern Conference placed five teams in the top 25, as did the Big 12. Joining Florida, Georgia and Alabama are Mississippi (No.
and LSU (No. 11). Tennessee, Auburn, Vanderbilt, South Carolina and Arkansas also received votes.
