KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – By the end of the third quarter, Tennessee fans were doing the wave, continuing chants and enjoying a defeated Georgia squad.

The Volunteers scored 17 points in the third, winning 45-19.

“We pretty much made a lot of mistakes and things just got out of hand real fast,” said Georgia linebacker Rennie Curran.

A Baccari Rambo interception and touchdown pulled the Bulldogs within six, 24-19, five minutes into the third period, but Georgia would not score again.

Tennessee quarterback Jonathan Crompton, criticized for his play this season, exploited the Georgia secondary for 310 yards and four touchdowns.

Time and time again Crompton utilized the naked bootleg, selling the play action and spreading the wealth to eight receivers.

“We got the right play calls because we knew what they were going to do,” Crompton said.

Conversely, the Georgia offense was unable to find the end zone, scoring three points. Senior quarterback Joe Cox threw two interceptions and Michael Moore fumbled.

Today was obviously not any good,” said Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo. “Tennessee got the better of us.”

The Bulldogs only entered Tennessee territory four times, two in each half, and struggled to set up the run. Georgia backs Carlton Thomas and Richard Samuel each had a team-high 30 yards rushing.

“[Tennessee] likes to get eight in the box,” Bobo said. They’re going to get eight in there to stop the run, but when they’re not going to give up the big play and you have to execute the offense and we didn’t do that.”

Georgia has failed to score a touchdown in 10 of their last 11 quarters.
