SEC honor awarded to Freshman back Ealey

By on November 17, 2009

After running for nearly 100 yards Saturday against Auburn, Georgia tailback Washaun Ealey was named the SEC’s Freshman of the Week Monday.

Ealey, a Stillmore native, rushed for 98 yards and a score against the Tigers, helping continue the Georgia running game’s upward trend.

Since burning his redshirt against LSU, Georgia’s new No. 24 has made two starts and rushed for three touchdowns and just over 63 yards per game.

In just six games, Ealey is the Bulldogs’ second-leading rusher with 379 yards.

After struggling to establish a running threat for most of the season, Georgia has found 473 rushing yards in its last two games against Tennessee Tech and Auburn.

Georgia Tech night game nationally televised

Georgia’s annual season-ending clash with Georgia Tech will be an 8 p.m. kickoff televised by ABC, it was announced Monday. The Nov. 28 game in Atlanta will be the Bulldogs’ third consecutive nationally televised night game, and second appearance on ABC this season.

Georgia topped Auburn 31-24 on ESPN Saturday night in Athens, and will take on Kentucky in a 7:45 ESPN2 game this week.

Georgia Tech (10-1, 7-1 ACC) has already clinched the ACC’s Coastal Division title, and will play in Tampa on Dec. 5 against the Atlantic Division champion, most likely Clemson, who will have a bye this week in preparation for Georgia.
