The holidays aren’t the same for Dogs athletes and coaches. How will they spend Thanksgiving?
NATE SCHNUGG, senior, men’s tennis -
“Since we’re in the off-season, everybody from the team goes home except the foreigners. They usually get together at someone’s house in Athens and have Thanksgiving there. Josh Varela actually is really welcoming to anybody that can’t go home, and his family is great. They always have their door open for us.”
JOEL McCARTNEY, volleyball head coach -
“We’ll invite families over to the house and have a Thanksgiving feast … I like playing the Wednesday before instead of the Friday after [because] I feel like you can eat a lot more turkey and not worry about it too much so it should be fun.”
PORSHA PHILLIPS, junior, women’s basketball -
“We’re basically just going to go out and eat together as a team. We’ll go to a restaurant and just sit down and eat together … we did the same thing last year and it’s nice. Obviously, I’d rather be at home with my family because my mom always cooks a lunch and I’ll miss that but this is the next best thing.”
MICHAEL MOORE, senior, football -
“Past couple of years I’ve been to coach [Rodney Garner's] house. I’ve done that a couple of years. Last year we went to Tavarres [King's] house. Me and A.J. [Green] went last year because Tavarres only lives about 30 minutes away. I’m pretty sure I’ll do that again because we have some fun over there. Yeah, it’s a wide receiver thing, so we keep it in the family.”
