SecureUGA deadline approaching
University employees have until Nov. 30 to complete SecureUGA – a PowerPoint-based module intended to increase online security responsibility.
“Its function is simply to make people aware with regards to information security and how to deal with risks,” said Brian Rivers, chief information security officer.
University employees are expected to have a working knowledge of information security, which brought about SecureUGA, Rivers said.
To be in compliance with the system, employees must complete a series of 10 modules, including password security, identity theft and fraud.
“We hold training and development on information security for staff and faculty in addition to 20 to 30 minute classes on security topics,” he said.
Deans and department heads are given a report of those who have and have not completed the program.
Though there aren’t any consequences for not completing the program, department heads and deans can take the report into consideration when making employee evaluations.
Terry College of Business Dean Robert Sumichrast said the college has made a serious effort to complete the module.
“We didn’t have to use the report because everyone completed it,” he said, adding that those who were listed as not completing the module no longer worked for Terry.
James Marshall, associate dean for academic programs in the College of Education, said the college follows up with employees to ensure all complete the module.
University employees, including student workers, can complete the modules at https://secure.uga.edu.
