MAN ON THE MARKET: Nick and Colleen talked bagged wine

Nick relaxes from date overload

My last date was with Colleen and it was a lot of fun. Colleen is pretty, quite funny and very easy to talk to. As soon as I met her I could tell that I was going to have a good time.

After I picked her up we went to The National for dessert. We noticed a box of wine in the kitchen, which kicked up a very interesting conversation on various slap-the-bag adventures.

Colleen also told me about the inner workings of sorority house security, which now sounds like a good career choice.

After dinner we went to Ciné to see “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.” We were a little early so we had a good chance to get to know each other better.

She told me about her parents, her brother’s friend’s beard and a Statesboro stalker who never remembers that he is stalking her.

The movie was one of the coolest movies I have ever seen. Colleen and I agree that the movie was just weird enough to be awesome.

After the movie we discussed our great ideas for inventions. I want to invent a car heater that is warm as soon as you turn on the car.

I really liked hanging out with Colleen; she seems like the type of person who always has a great story to tell.

But after I dropped Colleen off, I breathed a sigh of relief. I was glad that this experience was so much fun and not nerve-racking.

It was nice to meet four girls that were down-to-earth. I think at big schools like this we do our best to keep our head down or our cell phone pressed against our ears to avoid having to talk to strangers.

It was really nice to meet some people who were so open to meeting someone new. I would gladly see these girls again.

So, all in all, this was a great experience and I can’t wait to tell my kids one day how once upon a time a long time ago — and I do mean a long time ago — I was the Man on the Market.

Colleen loved getting a hello hug

To be completely honest, I was completely unaware of the “Man on the Market” series until last Thursday. That is when my best friend came into my room and told me she submitted my name. To say I was surprised would be an understatement.

The whole thing felt like something out of a movie script. At the time I laughed because I didn’t really think I would be one of the four blind dates.

Once it was all real, the nerves set in. I have never been on a blind date, and now my first one was going to be featured for the whole campus to read about!

But then I realized, at worst, this could be a funny story.

When Nicholas picked me up he handed me an iris and I got a nice hug. I don’t know if someone told him before our date how much I love hugs, but it’s a lot, so that was a pretty good introduction.

The plan was to see “The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus” at Ciné around 9:30, so we grabbed a little dessert before the movie at The National next door.

Over our desserts we talked about many things, finding out similarities and differences. It felt like no subject was off limits, whether about the past, present or future.

To me, the most exciting part of a first date is simply talking and getting to know a new person. When you meet new people you get to learn a series of new stories, and before the movie gave us ample opportunity to share.

When it was time for the movie, we had to dash over to Ciné to make it in time. I had never heard anything about the movie so I was surprised to see that Heath Ledger was a main character.

When the movie was over we tried to decide if they used different actors to be the character towards the end because he had unexpectedly died. We never really decided, though. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my date with Nicholas.
