Veazey to be honored at State Capitol
Georgia freshman baseball student-athlete Chance Veazey along with baseball coach David Perno and athletic trainer Mike Dillon will be honored on the House Floor at the State Capitol in Atlanta on Wednesday. They will be recognized in the State Legislature where a resolution will be presented at 10 a.m.
Veazey, a 5-foot-9, 175-pound native of Tifton, Ga., has been an inspiration to those who have met him or have learned of how he is dealing with his devastating injury. Veazey was projected to be Georgia’s starting second baseman this season. However he is paralyzed from the waist down as a result of a scooter accident on campus in late October. He has earned praise from his doctors including the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens and the Shepherd Center in Atlanta for his dedication and attitude during his rehabilitation.
Veazey is back home and completing fall semester classes online. He plans to return to UGA full-time next year and work with the baseball program.
Perno is set to begin his 14th season at UGA including his ninth as head coach. Dillon is in his 23rd year at UGA including his ninth with the baseball team. They have been instrumental in aiding Veazey’s recovery.
