Diamond Dogs take on FSU in series
The Diamond Dogs’ last trip to visit Tallahassee brought their 2009 season to an end, as Georgia went 1-2 in the Tallahassee regional last May, including an 8-2 loss at the hands of Florida State.
This weekend, the Diamond Dogs’ (6-3) return to Tallahassee for a tough, three-game out-of-conference series against the No. 6 Florida State Seminoles, who enter the weekend undefeated riding a seven-game winning streak.
The Bulldogs, on the other hand, limp into Tallahassee, missing several key infielders due to injuries, including freshman Kyle Farmer with a wrist injury and sophomore Levi Hyams with a back injury.
The Bulldogs also enter tonight’s 6 p.m. series-opener after suffering their most lopsided defeat of the season Wednesday night. The Alabama Crimson Tide dropped the Bulldogs in a 13-2 commanding win in the squad’s SEC-opener in Hoover, Ala.
The Diamond Dogs will look to return to their winning ways tonight behind junior right hander Justin Grimm, who has posted an impressive 1.69 ERA in his two appearances for the Bulldogs so far this season.
Grimm (1-0) was dominant in his last outing, striking out seven and pitching 5.2 scoreless innings in the Bulldogs 12-2 win over the Stetson Hatters in Athens last Friday.
Senior right hander Jeff Walters is slated to start against the Seminoles Saturday, while sophomore pitcher Michael Palazzone — who gave up just three earned runs in six innings of work last Sunday in the Bulldogs’ 7-5 win over Stetson — will be on the mound for the Bulldogs Sunday.
