Comeback easy for celebrity Tiger Woods

By on March 29, 2010

Davis Davidson, fictitious UGA student, is an excellent note-taker, the best note-taker in all of UGA. He’s so good that he has appeared on the front pages of all the top note-taking magazines. But last week the note-taking world was severely shaken after Davidson was accused of stealing bed linens by many former girlfriends.

Yesterday, Davidson released a statement saying he has a bed-sheet stealing addiction and that he has entered therapy. Will we ever forgive Davidson? No, psshhh of course not, he’s no Tiger Woods.

It seems that being a famous athlete has its advantages. Tiger Woods captivated audiences with his abilities on the golf course, as well as his transgressions off of it.

To give everyone a quick recap on what famous people can make it through, I’ll just list some things that Tiger has gone through the past few months: crashed his car into a fire hydrant, watched hundreds (it seems) of women come clean about their relationships with him, left a message on a woman’s phone warning her of his wife’s suspicions, lost millions of dollars in endorsement deals and received treatment for his sexual addiction.

After all of this, Tiger will return to the Masters and be welcomed with open arms. Why? Because he is arguably the most recognized athlete in sports history – and now he will make his grand return to the game of golf by overcoming the ridiculous past few months of his life and competing in the tournament that started his ascension to world renowned athlete.

It is the best decision he has made since he went into hiding after the scandal that exposed his numerous sexual exploits.

After the embarrassing and miserable ordeal that he has been through, the whole world can breathe a sigh of relief – the world’s number one golfer is returning to the game he redefined.

Sure, some people will watch Tiger play with critical thoughts of how awful a person he is – but they’ll still watch.

Here’s an open secret — Tiger and everyone else, including us, knew that his celebrity status would allow him to come back to golf. Sooner rather than later, it seems.

The use of celebrity when it comes to making a comeback is not unique to Tiger. In fact, here’s a list: Kobe Bryant, Mel Gibson, Eliot Spitzer, Ben Roethlisberger, Pee Wee Herman, Bill Clinton, Michael Irvin, Roman Polanski and the Prime Minister of Italy Silvio Berlusconi.

Tiger knows that everyone will be watching. He realized that he needed to give people an excuse to forgive him. So, he got treatment for his addictions and then released a statement about it. These events have been more like a show that we all have diligently watched, and they have lead to Tiger’s return to golf.

The Masters is the perfect setting for the return of the world’s first billion dollar athlete. The members of the PGA tour must be ecstatic. In all likelihood, they will break viewership records for the Masters tournament as millions of people tune in to see how Tiger will perform in light of the past few months.

Whether he plays well or not, Tiger will come out a winner — unlike poor Davis Davidson.
