Lomnicka named SEC athlete of week again
Georgia sophomore thrower Nikola Lomnicka has been named the Southeastern Conference Female Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive time following her performance at the Arizona State Invitational over the weekend, according to a league announcement.
Lomnicka, a 5-foot-5 native of Nitra, Slovakia, had a career-long hammer throw of 211 feet on her second attempt to win her event by more than 14 feet. This is the longest throw in the nation this year by more than four feet and ranks No. 3 on Georgia’s all-time top-10 list.
Lomnicka also launched throws of 207-1 and 206-8 in her series, which would have been the No. 1 marks in the country.
The Lady Bulldog also won last week’s SEC award after having a top mark of 206-7 during Georgia’s dual meet with Georgia Tech. In addition, Lomnicka earned one SEC weekly honor during the indoor season for her performance in the weight throw.
Georgia returns to the road this weekend to compete at the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla.
