English, Henley named semifinalists for 2010 Hogan Award
Georgia’s Harris English and Russell Henley have been named semifinalists for the 2010 Ben Hogan Award, according to an announcement Wednesday by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
The Hogan Award is presented annually to the top male golfer taking into account all collegiate and amateur competitions during a 12-month period.
Henley, a junior from Macon, is the country’s top-ranked golfer, according to the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Ratings. He has two victories this season and boasts a scoring average of 72.12.
English, a junior from Thomasville, is ranked fourth nationally by the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Ratings. English also has won twice this year and he leads the Bulldogs with a scoring average of 71.90.
English was chosen as the Southeastern Conference Golfer of the Week by the league office Tuesday.
English and Henley are joined on the semifinalists list by Bud Cauley of Alabama, Stanford¹s David Chung, Texas¹ Dylan Frittelli, Brendan Gielow of Wake Forest, Augusta State¹s Patrick Reed, Nick Taylor of Washington, and Oklahoma State¹s Kevin Tway and Peter Uihlein.
The Hogan Award finalists will be announced on May 11 and will be invited to Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, for the Hogan Award presentation on May 24.
English and Henley will lead the Bulldogs into the SEC Championship Friday through Sunday at Sea Island’s Seaside Course on St. Simons Island.
