Green Out for Louisiana – Lafayette
A.J. Green, Georgia’s star wide receiver will miss today’s game against the University of Louisiana (Lafayette) “pursuant to UGA Athletic Association policy and pending a ruling from the NCAA clarifying his status,” according to a release from Georgia Sports Communication.
While Green’s presence is likely not needed for today’s contest, losing a player of his caliber in their first road test of the season next week at South Carolina could spell major trouble for the Dogs if the NCAA doesn’t figure it out. It’s pretty embarrassing that the NCAA has taken this long to sort out the matter. It’s been over a month and a half, and the NCAA is yet to rule on this issue, despite working Alabama’s Marcel Dareus, another player involved in the agent probe, a two-game suspension. Another hypothetical question becomes if the NCAA does decide to hand Green a suspension down, would they include this game as part of his suspension? It’s a fluid situation at this point, and I’d be surprised if the Dogs don’t know something in time for the South Carolina game.
No. 2 wide receiver Tavarres King, No. 2 running back Washaun Ealey, and third-string safety Alec Ogletree are all suspended for today’s game.
Wide receivers Kris Durham and Marlon Brown were announced as starters at wide receiver with Green and King out.
Check back for more information after the game for comments from coach Mark Richt on Green sitting out.
