By on September 7, 2010

The Georgia soccer team jumped two spots to No. 23 in the latest edition of the HendrickCars.com/NSCAA national rankings released Tuesday afternoon. The Bulldogs entered the poll at No. 25 last week.

The Bulldogs (4-1) turned in a weekend sweep of a pair of in-state rivals, defeating Mercer by a score of 3-2 in double overtime Friday night before dominating Georgia State 5-1 in Atlanta Sunday for their fourth straight win and fourth straight outing with three or more goals.

Georgia is ranked third in the NSCAA South region.

Defending champion North Carolina stayed put at No. 1 this week, followed by Georgia’s next opponent, Stanford, at No. 2. Notre Dame, Portland, and Boston College complete the top five.

The Bulldogs will kick off vs. the defending national runner-up Cardinal this Friday night in Palo Alto, Calif., at 10 p.m. ET. Georgia’s Sunday contest will come against Santa Clara, tabbed No. 9 this week. That game will also be played at Stanford’s Laird Q. Cagan Stadium.
