Female visitor victim of sexual battery
A female visitor, 18, reported a sexual battery Sunday, according to a University Police report.
An unknown male approached the female in the hallway outside of the Tate Grand Ballroom and “made contact with an intimate part of her body without her consent,” according to the document.
The Muslim Interscholastic Tournament with the Muslim Student Association was taking place at the time in the Grand Ballroom, according to Campus Life.
“He came up from behind and he touched her in places that most of us would feel are inappropriate,” University Police Chief Jimmy Williamson told The Red & Black Wednesday.
There were no witnesses, Williamson said.
He said police “have done some things” to investigate who the unknown male is and the female would be interviewed for a last time Wednesday afternoon.
Williamson said both the female, who was visiting campus to attend an event, and her parents have told police they don’t want an investigation.
The victim has the final say on whether a case is investigated, he said.
“Unless they change their mind, we’ll definitely close the case,” Williamson said.
Student chased by unknown male
A female student athlete at the University was chased by an unknown male the morning of April 7, according to a University Police report.
The student, 18, told police she was walking from the Rankin Smith Center to the Stegeman Coliseum Annex when “an unknown white male began to follow her,” according to the report.
The student started to run, and the male chased her into the Coliseum Annex until she reached a door. She opened the door, and the male did not follow her.
The student said she didn’t know the male. He didn’t speak to or touch her during the chase.
The student said she was “in fear of her safety,” according to the report.
