Dating experts dispensed concise comedic advice

By on December 1, 2011

Last night dating coaches Dave and Ethan made the audience laugh – at itself.

Comedic duo Dave and Ethan visited Athens last night to give out their well-versed dating advice, having traveled the country doing much the same elsewhere. But this time the pair tailored its words for the University. ROBYN JOHNSON/Staff

The comedic duo, with well-over 200 double dates worth of experience in the romance world, had the crowd in stitches. And mixed with the laughs was a comprehensive judgment of the college dating scene and a few tips to help ignite future relationships.

After spending a night out surveying the dating scene in Athens, Dave and Ethan were not afraid speak their minds about what they witnessed: love is not in the air at the University.

From style mistakes to that irretrievable night downtown, it seems everything about college life is not amiable to a quest for true love.

For University students, the damage has been done – but Dave and Ethan were happy to make fun of its very own audience to hopefully better their future dating experiences.

Comprehensively, there are many things,  the duo said, that go into keeping up with the dating scene in college, from meeting the right person to planning the perfect date.

However, the comedians gave a few fool-proof tips to boost anyone’s date-ability.

  1. Style: Leggings are not pants. Girls, this is already giving out too much information.
  2. Popping the question: “Um … do you want to like maybe go out on a date thing with me, maybe?” is not an invitation. It’s a mumble. Confidence is attractive. Also, girls, take it from the guys, they think it’s great when the lady makes the first move.
  3. Keeping it legal: Memory is a virtue. Staying substance free before and during a date is desirable. Being able to remember the date’s name the next morning is always a plus.
  4. Chivalry is not dead: A lady will go for a gentleman. Slipping a little chivalry in throughout the date adds to the romance of the date. Simple things such as opening the car door for the lady shows respect.
  5. Getting physical: Dancing with a date is fun and can be a great experience to create a romantic connection with the other person as long as one does not resemble a sexual offender or other type of criminal in the process.
  6. Making the move: When kissing, a soft caress of the hair and gentle pecks are preferable to nibbling that morphs into biting as if one has missed a meal.

However, one general rule to be applied to the dating scene as a whole was conveyed by the two experienced daters through their performance style: a sense of humor about oneself in romantic adventures is not just helpful but also rewarding.

The laughs shared by audience and performers were reward enough last night, but the audience left with even more than a smile; the important dating advice that will surely influence future dates was the real prize.
