Police are looking into a report that a student from Georgia College & State University was possibly raped while attending a party last weekend in Athens at Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, according to published reports.

The Athens Banner-Herald reported Thursday that according to the incident report from the Milledgeville Police Department, the GCSU woman passed out at 10 p.m. on Saturday and when she woke up at 11 the next morning she was missing her underwear and had bruises on her hips and knees. The woman told the police she had no memory of what happened to her at the party.

After the woman returned to Milledgeville, she confided to her roommate what had happened, according to the report, and they both went to the Oconee Regional Medical Center where police were notified of a possible rape. The hospital completed a Georgia Bureau of Investigation sexual assault kit on the woman, and police collected what was worn by the woman at the time of the incident, according to the report.

The woman said she was at the party with two friends and they lost track of her around 10 p.m.

The evidence was turned over to the Athens Clarke County police for further investigation.

Way to go Red & Black - posting allegations as fact. The boys at Phi Gamma Delta have a reputation of being great guys. This girl apparently just blacked out at the party and woke up ashamed of her behavior:

"The woman told the police she had no memory of what happened to her at the party. (Continued…)

This is so dumb. A girl claiming rape when A) she was so drunk she doesn't even know what happened. B) she had bruises on her HIPS and KNEES? really? she probably fell down. (Continued…)

I truly hope the red and black plays this one fair. Being a member of the Greek System here at UGA I am never surprised when the red and black makes alleged behavior front page material. (Continued…)

They are just reporting the news. R&B is not stating it as a fact, they said "possibly", and "according to published reports." READ the article next time. (Continued…)

You all seem to have a problem with the newsmedia reporting "alleged" crimes. This is a common practice, and not exclusive to the Red and Black. They are just doing their job. (Continued…)

Way to go Lauren- defending possible rapists rather than your fellow woman. You probably believe the guys at Chi Phi were framed last year.

I would think that as a woman, you would be upset at a possible rape rather than trying to defend a group of guys. (Continued…)

O.K O.K., let me tell you guys what happened in this case based on the facts that I have before me. This clumsy girl went to the bathroom and slipped on some guys' urine that was all over the floor. (Continued…)

Doctors performed a rape kit examination and police confiscated her clothes as part of their investigation. If she WAS raped, the kit could prove it. However, with no eye-witnesses, i imagine it will be hard to determine who allegedly raped her. (Continued…)

Seriously? Rape? Front page news? This article's space could have been used for more info on the dining hall thieves.

In the likely scenario that this girl was blackout drunk and her friends and others could testify that the victim was seen flirting with and kissing the soon-to-be accused, who is really to blame?

Since when did a lack of personal responsibility become acceptable?

It is important to note that these allegations bring about many emotions, and as we all know, emotion clouds judgement. (Continued…)
