What in the world does that first post mean and have to do with the subject at hand?
Especially in light of the Duke allegation a few years ago, it would seem that fraternities would do everything possible to avoid such publicity and accusations. It would also seem that the girls who had come all the way from Milledgeville to attend this "party" would have kept track of each other. Did the other girls just leave without their supposed to be friend? Instead of a designated driver, it might be wise for a fraternity to have a designated "watchman", one who doesn't drink and tries to ensure that nothing is happening that will cause such allegations as this to occur. If this girl woke up on a couch the next morning, surely SOMEONE knows how she got there and if there was anyone on that couch with her. Who knows about the missing underwear and the bruises? She had the personal responsibility to look out for her own interest, especially after putting herself in the presence of a number of unknown testosterone young males, not to excuse anything that one or some of them could have done. But this vague accusation has no logical conclusion at this point. BE smart: stay home or stay sober and know with whom you're lying down.

It is very sad to me that women on this campus have to educate one another about how to lower their risk of assault. Sorority members talk as if violence against women is just something that is unavoidable, even expected. Hence the "training" that occurs to freshman/new initiates about not accepting an open drink from a fraternity host, etc. etc...And now we have "watchmen"? When will we start focusing on the behavior of men and its causes? There is a great group called "MASIV" (Men Against Sexual and Interpersonal Violence) that engages in a variety of activities to increase empathy, awareness, and ultimately real prevention. As a male, I feel as though we need this kind of activism, as it is very hard to speak out against one's brothers. Let's start a UGA chapter of MASIV and really deal with this problem in a concerted, productive way.
