Abstract:
Cartoons continue to cause frustrationAs a student newspaper, The Red & Black's main purpose should be "serving the University of Georgia community." Unfortunately, instead of giving me that little giggle in the morning, L.Ray's cartoons make me want to put down the paper out of sheer annoyance and frustration....

Jennifer Gilbert, if you are all for free speech, then why do you think the editorial board should use discretion? That means you're NOT for free speech. You only mind free speech when it fits your beliefs, then. Free speech is free speech. It means you can say whatever you want. And not everyone at UGA is conservative. Sorry, but there ARE some moderates and liberals.
The Red and Black, as you should know, says whatever they want -- even if it'll offend someone. Free speech is something the Red and Black agrees with and so they'll include almost anything in their newspaper. Instead of being completely conservative, the Red and Black reflects the opinions of many different people on campus. There is a conservative newspaper you can read if you'd like. (It usually can be found near the Red and Black) But for everyone who actually believes in free speech, the Red and Black is for them.
And again, if you don't like the comics, go elsewhere. The Red and Black recently said they are not removing the artist and you'll just have to deal with her. You can complain all you want, but the artist isn't going anywhere.
Free speech means no censorship and no "discretion."
