Research budgets are tightening with increasing competition for grants, but the University is keeping its lab animals healthy and well-fed.

The University's lab animals (with the possible exception of the worms, snails, and nematodes) are enslaved. It doesn't matter how you treat them, or if they still get enough to eat. If we pretend to take the interests of sentient nonhumans seriously, we must grant them the one basic right not to be regarded as our property.
