Injuries turn hopeful season into a 'tough grind'

Abstract:
With one game remaining on its schedule, head coach Mark Richt was asked to sum up the season during his Sunday teleconference.

Richt's response was short and simple: "It's been a tough grind."

Richt said that this is usually the case for most years, but that this season has been especially tough based on how many injuries Georgia has faced....

Injuries certainly have played their part in how the Bulldogs have played out the season but there's more to that story than injuries. To have fallen from a preseason #1 rating to where the DAWGS are now says that either they were overranked in the beginning or they just haven't played up to potential - I would offer the latter opinion. In spite of Coach Richt's promises to keep down penalties, they are still happening and usually at a late crucial point in the game. Jarius Wynn had glaring penalties in the Alabama game, in my opinion costing the DAWGS a win, and except for Demarcus Dobbs Jarius ALSO could have cost us the Kentucky game. When a player consistently creates fouls that cost the team yardage or points, he would be more valuable NOT playing than costing the team. Yet, even after his snafus in the Alabama game, he was right back there to almost cost the Kentucky game. Penalties are going to happen, some called, some missed. But when one player commits those personal fouls on a regular basis he obviously needs more than a few extra runs. The defense is another horror story and if the same coordinator comes back next season, look for more misery, especially on total lack of pass coverage. The zone defense hasn't worked all year - Florida ate UGA's lunch with short passes and Kentucky used running plays to do whatever it wanted on the field, a FRESHMAN quarterback, nowhere near the caliber of UGA's once freshman quarterback Matthew Stafford. But the lack of UGA defense made him and the rest of the Wildcats look like an awesome team. This late in the season, Georgia has yet to put a whole game into play - calling running plays when it's 3rd and 20 or 3rd and long is disastrous as we saw on Saturday. It's as if Coach Bobo has moved away from what got him the job in the first place. Come on DAWGS, Tech is no pushover this season. PLEASE don't pile the embarrassment of losing to Tech on top of that disaster in Florida.

I never really thought about it, I guess looking back I should have gone with the cheesecake.
