Abstract:
Holding classes irresponsible with icy campus, students and staff in dangerWhen hundreds or thousands of students are still without power well into the early morning hours of a 20-degree night, the University should alter its priorities from ensuring that midterms go off without a hitch to making sure that its students are safe for the night....

Yes.

I agree with Richard. Your hardships that morning are not the Universities fault. Plenty of people, including myself, were very capable of braving the weather. Yes, it could have been better handled. However, that is in hindsight. There is nothing these letters accomplish other than make the community look dependent.

To elaborate, you could have just not gone to class. If you genuinely feared for your safety, your professors would have been forced to understand. Personally, I believe school should have been delayed until noon.

I command this of you. Watch the movie "Jeremiah Johnson." Read about Jeremiah Johnson.

Otherwise, I think you should have to change your name for being such a total whiner. Get over it. NOBODY owes you an apology for anything.

Dear anonymous coward,

I happen to know Jeremiah Johnson, and believe me, his most certainly NOT a whiner. Your dismissive attitude says more about you and what a puss you are than it does about Jeremiah Johnson, a fine poet, singer, and guitar slinger.

Piss off, junior, and get over yourself.

I totally understand all of these letters. But let's just face facts, no? The administration doesn't care about students or faculty, not one iota. The chancellor of the Board of Regents, Errol Davis, has a background in BUSINESS, not education. He doesn't understand how to run a university system. He continues to degrade the educational process in Georgia. This decision to have school despite dangerous weather conditions is only a recent bad decision Davis has made.

Others include his "customer service initiative" which attempts to turn colleges and universities into shopping malls. If Errol Davis had HIS way, students could just waltz into the campus bookstore and purchase a diploma, education and integrity be damned.

Let's not forget, too, the "snitch" line he set up for faculty to call and "tattle" on one another about stealing office supplies or misusing university materials. Errol (nor Michael Adams, for that matter) doesn't want camaraderie; he wants blind obedience to business-style principles.

Let's not forget that under Errol's illustrious leadership, the USG has fallen in national rankings. Morale among students and faculty is at an all-time low. The hate that the BOR and the current UGA administration levels at students and faculty is astounding, the level of hubris amazing.

As long as Errol Davis is in charge, this business-over-education attitude will continue. He's a plague on our university system, a motley fool who has no business holding his position.
