Your article certainly accomplished one thing: It gained many hits for randb.com. I didn't know this site existed until an au fan sent this article out. I'm not about to make any bold predictions or trash talk this year - but you really have to watch that lot from east Alabama, they're a sensitive lot...
RTR!!!
Not only have you displayed an incredible lack of class, you fed into any negative stereotype one might have of a native Alabamian.
I was reared in Birmingham, went to Auburn, and have lived in Atlanta for 3 years.
I've visited your hallowed Athens and found it to be a very pleasant town. My concern is that you feel the need to attack another town/school in order to feel better about yourself. How very sad. While a degree of "smack talk" is expected and even encouraged, this article is a vicious piece of trash that did nothing more than show how pathetic you are.
War Eagle. We won, you lost, game over.
See you next year.
Why did you even bother telling us you were raised a diehard bama fan? We were able to figure that out as soon we started to read your pathetic piece of trash that passes for journalism in Athens. While you're at it why don't you go ahead and pick a few more teams to pull for besides UGA and Bama, Lord knows neither of those teams are able to stop the Tigers. You don't even know how to tailgate in Athens. We were stuck in some rock and gravel parking lot that afterwards looked like it could double as a landfill. Georgia fans don't even have enough pride to take their trash with them when they leave there tacky little town called Athens. I guess they were in a hurry to get to one of there wonderful bars and try to drink away the horrific memories of the Tigers coming to town once again. War Damn Eagle! Mike

HEY GENTRY....WHERE DO I START??? LET'S START WITH CLASSY..IF "EYE OF THE TIGER" PLAYING IN JORDAN-HARE MAKES AUBURN FANS UN-CLASSY THEN WHAT THE HELL DOES "WHO LET THE DAWGS OUT" MAKE YOUR TEAM?? LOOKS LIKE YOU SHOULD HAVE FOLLOWED YOUR SISTER AND HIGH SCHOOL SWEATHEART TO THE LOVELIEST VILLAGE ON THE PLAINS AND YOU MIGHT HAVE HAD A CHANCE AT AN SEC CHAMPIONSHIP. WAIT, LET ME TAKE THAT BACK....WE DO NOT WANT YOUR KIND ON THE PLAINS. I CAN SEE HOW YOU ARE ONLY TWO SECONDS AWAY FROM GETTING IN A FIGHT IN AUBURN. IF GEORGIA IS ALL ABOUT "TRADITION" AND BEING "DISTINGUISHED" FANS, WHERE WERE THEY IN '99???? ALL OF THE UGA FANS AROUND ME WERE GONE BY THE HALF. YOU WILL NOT SEE THAT IN JORDAN-HARE NO MATTER THE OUTCOME OF THE GAME. YOU ARE RIGHT ABOUT ONE THING THOUGH....THE UNPREDICTABLE PLAY CALLING....WHO WOULD HAVE GUESSED THAT YOUR "GREAT" NEW HEAD COACH THAT "HAS BROUGHT IT ALL TOGETHER", WOULD HAVE RUN THE BALL WITH 16 SECONDS LEFT AND NO TIMEOUTS????? IS THAT UNPREDICTABLE OR STUPID???? DANIEL COBB NOT ONLY GAVE US RUDI JOHNSON, BUT ALSO A 24-17 VICTORY OVER YOUR DAWGS AND I RECALL A 23-20 VICTORY OVER SPURRIER'S GATORS. I HOPE YOU HAVE MORE MOTIVATION FOR THE AUBURN TIGERS NEXT YEAR WHEN YOUR DAWGS COME TO TOWN.....NOT THAT THEY WILL NEED IT. WAR DAMN EAGLE!!!! TYLER

I am going to post this reply here as well as in an e-mail so that I am sure you will get it.
I am a life-long resident of the great State of Georgia, and grew up in a family of proud UGA graduates.
I have always had respect for the University of Georgia as being a proud and upstanding university.
Good rivalry is one thing, blatant insult is quite another.
I certainly hope this article is no more than propaganda that was only intended to make the game a little more fierce.
I suppose you think that since you are now a student in MY state, that you have risen above your Bama birthright and now have achieved some level of superiority? You are still and always will be from Alabama. So before you demoralize your fellow statesmen, you had better take a closer look at yourself.
Did you actually read your article? Look at it again. Does this represent a university that "prides" itself with tolerance and diversity. It sounds to me like you might just be a little stereotypical of your fellow alabamians. You call us racist?
Do you realize how may students from Georgia attend Auburn? Do you know how many students turn down the HOPE scholarship and pay three times in-state tuition to go there? Auburn pulls more students from Georgia than any other state besides Alabama. I am proud to say that I was one of them. One of the key factors that led me to Auburn was the size of the community and the feeling of closeness that is there. Hopefully someday you will learn that there is much more to a community than how many bars are on the corner.
I am sure you will learn many things over the next few years. I certainly hope that class is one of them.
PS, in case you forgot, your predictions were all wrong. We won, again.
"Be warned Tigers. This year the Bulldogs are ready. No more predictable play calling. No more not showing up until halftime. Georgia will be ready to play."
Too bad your coach can't call the right play with time running out...so classic!
Go ahead, bring your trash-talking to Auburn next year. I'm sure you'll need your nose plugs to avoid the stink. But it won't be because Auburn smells like "Southpaw" or "cow." The stink will be coming from those DAWGS on the field.
Please do not associate yourself with the University of Alabama. Your article is enough of an embarrassment for UGA. Please don't add us to your pitiful fantasies.
You really do suck.
Hey Gentry,
Lovely article. You are a classy journalist. I wanted to say thanks for the motivation you provided our team and fans this past weekend in Athens. As usual, The Tigers left town last night with another win. You and your fans haven't a clue what football in the South is all about. You might want to consider finding another place to play this game when it is Georgia's turn to be at home. Perhaps closer to Atlanta so we can see the great interstate system the state is so famous for. After all, the 'Dawgs forgot to continue "down the track" they came into the stadium on. Ya'll talked all day about this was your year and whatever nonsense your great fans were running their mouths about until about roughly 7:30 PM Eastern Time last night in the town that charges fans to park, how disgraceful. After the "Hairy Dawgs" had hunkered down in the red zone and the bone-headed new coach had made his call, the clock hit zero and the Tigers had again come out on top, plucked some hedge, and celebrated like ol' times in Athens while the outspoken Georgia Faithful headed to the great two-lane interstate leaving your boring town with tails tucked between their legs as is usually the case when the Tigers come to town every other year. Thanks for the good game and we'll be back in Atlanta December 8 if you would care to join us to watch how the Gators can be defeated. The Dawgs don't stand a chance against a steady diet of "Cadillac" Williams running wild between the hedges. So prepare for three more years of Carnell and get back with us next year on the Plains. Maybe you could get in touch with your coach and go over film of how to run the football in the redzone or perhaps, practice spiking the ball when you have no timeouts to get another chance at the endzone that we visited one more time than you. War Damn Eagle!!! Russ
I forgot to mention in the last voice session, WSP isn't even cool now so who cares if they were cool in Athens first. I guess the coolness was gained from playing more than two bars like they would have to do should they have come from Auburn. What a selling point you have made for this worthless band. I'm thinking of going out and buying every CD available to the public. Hell, I could buy just one since all their music sounds the same and cover the coolness they have provided you. I'm not sure where I would go if I were you, since Bama can't win either but we sure as hell don't want you in Auburn, even if you are looking for your long-lost girlfriend. She is probably with someone with a little class now. Sorry you have never had any of that.

The only thing worth reading about your article or what ever you call that was -No matter who wins- but then the rest was trash just like what I observed this weekend at the UGA campus. I have never seen so much filth. It sure wasn't paradise. And as for our PA, there's no better way to get the tigers hyped than by playing "Eye of the Tiger", unlike where your board just reads make noise. I also agree with the girl that you encountered last year except I will say it better this year, Who Got There Ass Beat, Who, Who? Sorry bulldogs but the Auburn Tigers are better. WAR DAMN EAGLE!!!
Gentry; what a distasteful article. I would never even think to place that strong of commentary on-air about any school, even the U of Alabama. I hope you are not reflective of what I hear is an excellent journalism school at UGA. "I hate" to see when such a good paper wastes space on such a pointless, tasteless, and unworthy article.

Being that you were raised an arrogant Alabama fan, I'm not surprised at your tasteless article on Auburn. You folks have spent your lives reliving the past and running down a good school. Nor was I surprised at how wrong your prediction of a Georgia win was.
As for your new school, you say Georgia has tradition. But that tradition includes only one win over Auburn in Athens in the last 20 years! If that is tradition I hope Auburn never has it.
The SEC Championship game is playing in the great state of Georgia. How many times have the Bulldogs competed in that game? None. Can you count that high?
You are a disgrace to the good people of Georgia and my bet is that one day they will boot you out. I just hope that you don't come back to Alabama. Have you ever been to Alaska?

You know, it is sad when a football game brings out the idiot in people. I am referring to the guest column by Gentry Estes. It's one thing to talk about the football game and your predictions. But to disrespect a campus is just, ...well...girly. And by the way, with a name like "Gentry" you can expect to always be "two seconds away from fighting".
You can talk tradition after you win an SEC championship. And for God's sake get a rivalry game that isn't in the ACC. It's embarrassing to the conference, chump.
Gentry, I'm glad that everyone recognizes that your article was written tongue-in-cheek. Imagine how stupid you would look if you were serious. By the way, is the amount of class you displayed in your article typical of all UGA fans?
Georgia fans really know how to show their class. And this is something that you pride yourselves on? If you grew up a Bama fan why are you in Athens. Take your ass to the hell hole of Tuscaloosa. Oh if your think we're racist why don't you check out your own frats. Oh yeah, it's good to know that you pride yourself on the number of bars in Athens. That's alot to be proud of.
You are a SUPERB journalist. Who is the audience for this article? In some paragraphs you speak directly to us, and in others you refer to Auburn in the 3rd person. Not to mention this piece reads like it was written by a second grader.
And you are the sports editor? Oh yeah - I forgot. You were raised a Bama fan. That certainly explains your lack of communications skills.
You say: "Georgia is twice the state of Alabama is, what with the paved interstates and all."
Yes, they are very nice interstates, I'm sure - too bad none of them lead to the Holy Land of Athens (we all have to leave this afternoon just to make it there in time for kickoff).
You ask: "How in the hell did Auburn beat Florida?"
Fair and square, sort of like you beat UT earlier this year (as I recall, that one, like our win over the Gators, took some last-minute heroics. So let's each not toot our respective horns).
Thanks for the motivational piece...I'm sure it's posted in the athletic complex by now and will be circulated on the team bus tomorrow.
WAR DAMN EAGLE! See ya tomorrow (I just hope we can manage to get down the awesome 2 lane road in time for kickoff).
