don't blame the writer...usually headlines are written by section editors.

that makes the obviously intentional double entendre even more embarassing

It's really sad to continue to see the R&B turning into a low rent tabloid. There are so many other newsworthy events taking place on campus worth writing about than who was arrested for what last weekend. Is sifting through the police blotter or stalking people's facebook page to dig up dirt what they're teaching in the Grady college these days?

Dude, I am soooo tired of ppl complaining that the R&B is a tabloid paper for reporting on student arrests...don't wanna end up in the paper, then don't break the law. n if it really bothers that damn much, y don't u try reporting for the R&B. they don't need ne more crime reporters b/c they only need 1, so i'm sure u could b a great asset to them.

I love the R&B

Have you ever taken a look at the other college newspapers? Very similar to the R&B, the websites even look almost the same. Check out this site, from THE DAILY GAMECOCK.
http://media.www.dailygamecock.com/media/storage/paper247/news/2007/09/12/Metro/Crime.Report-2961813.shtml?reffeature=mostemailedtab

It is a map of crimes recently committed. If you scroll over them, it will give you a description of the crime, identification, and responding officer. You don't see their readers complaining, do you?? Apparently, arrests are college news. Get used to it!

I am truly sorry. Is that English? Has anyone ever seen the movie "Idiocracy"?

I would also like to see the Red and Black become a true newspaper instead of .... well...we all know what it is.

1st off: It's a blog, not my midterm engl paper.
2nd: why didn't u just post a reply instead of cutting and pasting?
3rd: why don't u do urself a favor and just not read the R&B ne more.
4th: n good job on watching a movie, i'm sure that took a lot of effort on ur behalf. u r truly an intellectual at the University.

It is absolutely ludicrous to arrest someone for underage drinking. Sadly, it doesn't surprise me. Both the university and Clarke County police have been focusing on punitive alcohol enforcement at the expense of public safety for years. Certainly they should be vigilant against drunk drivers and underage drinkers, but to arrest someone for underage drinking is excessive and a scandalous waste of public resources. The police have better things to do with their time, like trying to solve the Jennifer Stone case (it's been 15 years now). As a Red & Black alumnus, it is very disheartening to see the Red & Black to participate in this way.

Want to know why they have to make custodial arrests for underage? Its becuase of litigation. If the officer were to let him go on just a ticket and 20 mins later he gets hit by a car or robbed then his parents will sue the police saying that had they taken him to jail for his own safety the incident wouldn't have happened. There have been a number of suits just like this against campus police departments in recent years. UGA police receives zero money from the arrests/tickets they write. Guess what! cops know that at least half of everyone downtown are underage. But if you are dumb enough to stand out and get caught then you should go to jail. Underage possession of alcohol is is a crime in GA. So long as its a crime cops will enforce it.

nice job here. you just wasted 30 sec. of my life on a non-issue. oh no! a 20 year old college student was drinking a beer! call cnn. what a joke you are and this paper has become.

Two things.

First, I agree that this is not news. A 20 year old gets busted drinking in Athens. Wow, imagine that.

Second, Emanuel Cook, the starting safety for USC, was fully reinstated by the university. If you are going to allude to such incidents, be sure you give the entire story. You cheapen your publication by taking cheap shots at USC after losing the game.

Go Cocks!

School. Paper.

It's a paper. It's printed by a school.

The headline was hilarious, the subject matter was pertinent and a little bit cathartic for those of us who had to sit in Sanford on Saturday. All the other relevant news was discussed, 9/11 was commemorated, and this *SCHOOL PAPER* achieved all it was aiming for. If you hate it so much, feel no need to do anything other than denigrate it, and are offended by its contents, please remember that there are multiple boxes containing more newsy papers scattered around campus. You're just a cardswipe away from good old watered-down boring 'relevant' news.

Actually, the Red and Black takes great pride in NOT being directly affliated with the University. Although the writers are students, the paper itself is not technically (Read:financially) affiliated with UGA.

They purposely did that to avoid being edited or censored by school admin....but with a tacky headline like this, they could use some editing.

This is terrible, we can't beat the Gamecocks and our paper sucks! Standard comment, can't beat a good team, so we blame it on the refs. Real classy. We just got beat plain and simple by a better team.
