Abstract:
Ron Jeremy, a porn star who has directed, produced and starred in more than 1,800 adult films, and Craig Gross, a pastor and founder of xxxchurch.com - a Web site promoting a religious view on pornography - squared off in a sold-out debate Tuesday night in the Georgia Hall at the Tate Center....

Although it is easily understandable for people to condemn pornography based on differing personal or religious convictions, it is not there place to try and eliminate pornography altogether. Usage, interaction, or industry participation are all voluntary acts that each individual should have the right to accept or reject. Therefore, even those feeling degraded but continuing to associate themselves with the industry are simply not correctly using their rights as an American citizen. Perhaps garbage men feel they are degraded because their profession can lead to health issues and is typically not viewed as reputable or respectable. However, do these workers not have the same right to find employment elsewhere if the benefits do not outweigh their personal sacrifices? It shouldn't matter the industry or topic so long as personal rights are not infringed upon. Ron Jeremy, proudly a fellow brother of Tau Kappa Epsilon, could be representing any industry and still have a valid point; let individuals make their own decisions and do not infringe upon the rights of Americans to use or not use pornography.

The "University" of Georgia already does almost anything for money. They and/or their "professors" accept money from organizations like the American Cancer Society and/or they permit this organization to raise money on campus notwithstanding the many untoward, unethical and improper activities documented by Samuel S. Epstein, M.D. and others to have been committed by them but when administrators were requested to invite him to refute false and misleading statements by them, they refused. But Mr. Jeremy is welcomed.
Why not instruct these administrators how to convince the public to have a full blown whorehouse on campus. Why not, money is all the counts anyway is it not? There are no rules anymore, no scientific method rules, no scholarship rules, no intellectual freedom rules and no common sense anymore. Anything goes.

Critics of porn always lump "mainstream" porn together with the "nasty" fringe porn (eg, child porn, violent porn). This obfuscates and twists the debate. I absolutely agree that we should try to prohibit and eliminate things like child porn. I always believe that the general negative attitude towards mainstream porn is based on our society's erotophobia, which is reflected in religious teachings.
Mainstream porn, such as the kind Ron Jeremy espouses, is good healthy fun. And sex *should* be fun! Never mind the silly pop psychology nonsense that critics spew about how sexually explicit films warp the mind, raise unrealistic expectations, etc., etc. We live in a sexually repressed (Christian) society.
