New state gun laws receive mixed reactions

Abstract:
The Georgia Legislature enacted a bill last week that allows gun owners with a permit to bring concealed guns, such as hand guns or pistols, into state and historic parks, public transportation and restaurants that serve alcohol.

Although gun owners cannot drink alcohol while carrying their guns in restaurants, the new law has received mixed response from restaurant managers here in Athens....

I feel for the most part that the laws just enacted are good except for the concealed weapons in establishments that serve alcohol; however, I believe each private establishment could have rules that do not allow such behavior thereby helping to prevent any dangerous situations.

Can you please explain how a rule has ever prevented a dangerous situation? Rules only apply to those that are not inclined to break them. Those that would exibit the dangerous behaviors do not follow the rules in the first place.

What I find really funny was Gov Sonny's comments about his wife's right to carry at the airport because she may be jumped on her way from the car to the terminal.

Finally we have a way to defend ourselves against those dangerous minorities.

Yeah, no one said it, but you know someone's thinking it.

Here's the scenario. I carry a concealed weapon daily, I go downtown to a high crime area one night (I know it's a high crime area because of police statistics published regularly about kinds and quantity of crime in various areas of the city NOT because of who lives there). I am there for a dinner meeting at an upscale resturant.

What do I do with my pistol? A) wave it around for all to see while trying vainly to find a safe place to hide it in the car. B) Knowingly wear it into the restaurant praying I don't ever have to use the damned thing anyway C) Should have worn a tie-died T-shirt and holstered a bunch of daisies relying on the kindness of strangers D) Pray Sonny Purdue never runs for office again ever. Answer: both B and D are correct

And by the way - those "dangerous" minorities in the restaurant with me are probably are better educated, make more money, and more likely to believe pistols should be illegal for civilians that you or me.

To paraphrase Winston Churchill: Show me a 20 year old who is a conservative and I will show you a man with no heart. Show me a 40 year old who is a liberal and i will show you a man with no brain.

Racism is all about jumping to conclusions based on the tone of a person's skin. In this case, Zaid has decided that some lawmakers are racist, not because of anything they said or did, but because he claims to know what they are thinking. I can't help but wonder, did Zaid make an inference based on skin color and that alone?

Nope, it's just a troll posing as "zaid." Let's ignore him and get back to the real subject.

The new law is a step in the right direction. The law provides these new rights to licensed carriers only! Licensed carriers are required to have a perfectly clean criminal and mental history and steps are taken for the state to be sure of this. This new law gives these law-abiding citizens the right to legally carry firearms into areas that criminals were already taking them. A criminal has no respect for the law and would already do whatever they wished if they were determined to commit a crime.

LRJ,

Let me just point out that if even one responsible armed citizen had been on each of the airplanes hijacked on 9/11, we would have seen a very different outcome. 9/11 was a tragic example of the futility of trying to disarm the public, which serves only to discard the natural advantage of good people outnumbering criminals.

Depending on the government for your personal safety is not only naiive, it's highly irresponsible.
