What's the deal with all the pictures of Connor McCarthy in the R&B lately? He's not even mentioned in this article, but there's his big ole smilin face.

Man, it's almost like he's running for something. Hey wait a minute...

This article illustrates the vital importance of the 1st Amendment protecting and encouraging the Red and Black to publish the excellent investigative articles (at least 6) on the 20 year old Bender case. Suppose those excellent articles had not been written or published. It would be business as usual and this article about Adams' comments at this meeting would not have been written.
Notice that Adams states he has the authority to revoke tenure. But he is worried more about the rights of Bender than the rights of every one of the thousands of studentts at UGA. Bender has had 20 years to protect his due process rights. All this is a cop out on the part of Adams since all he cares about is ducking his basic responsibilities to make UGA look like something it is not to a gullible and unwittng public, which has virtually nothing to say about anything that goes on there. He is a reflection of those who hired him on the Board of Regents, the group of (usually wealthy) favored citizens, cronies of the Governor or past Governors, but who care less what citizens think of their anti-democratic and autocratic way of running this so-called "University". Adams is a cowardly and gutless P.R. (Public Relations) man, just like his boss. By the way, one of the Regents was in the news only yesterday (Athens Banner Herald, front page) for willfully flaunting the Georgia laws on financial disclosure). It is interesting that he is in the liquor business, selling a "legal" drug which destroys brain cells of young and old alike! This is the kind of success which former and current Governors have rewarded with plum jobs as "Regent" of the "University System of Georgia".
This is the kind of individual who votes on whether to provide a new medical school at UGA, which has been unethically, improperly and likely illegally seeking to fool students, faculty and citizens at large, about the gross misconduct of the powerful American Cancer Society since all they care about is another ACS grant of money, not the blood on their hands from fraudulently fooling people about cancer and its many toxic "treatments", which kill more people than they save. References: "American Cancer Society America's Wealthiest 'Non-Profit' Institution" by Samuel S. Epstein, M.D., International Journal of Health SErvices, 1999, also available on his website www.preventcancer.com and "Univesity Fails to Offer Another Viewpoint" by Winfield J. Abbe, Ph.D., at www.annieappleseedproject.org, and "The Truth About Hydrazine Sulfate Dr. Gold Speaks" by Joseph Gold, M.D., 2005 at www.hydrazinesulfate.org.
Dr. Adams should fire the documented sexual predator this morning and Adams himself should be fired by the Board of Regents by 12:00 noon today. Then, the people should demand the entire Board of Regents be fired too and replaced with a true democartic system for operating this poor excuse for a "university".

The Bobster

Winfield strikes again!! Somehow, someway, he has managed to tie in his tired harangue about the ACS to the article at hand, no matter how unconnected the topics may seem! Ingenious! Truly his madness knows no bounds! To express an opinion, and then cite an article YOU wrote as evidence for that opinion's veracity is a dizzying feat of dementia and egoism. That a man in his 70s lives to haunt the pages of an internet newspaper site to give voice to his crackpot theories is actually kinda sad. However, the strong possibility that cancer will strike him down sometime in the near future is amusing. The Bobster wonders if Winfield will refuse treatment in hospitals partially funded by American Cancer Society money, or refuse medications that might save or prolong his life but were developed by reasearch funded by the ACS. The Bobster will be making a donation to the ACS in Winfield's name today, just in case.

Office for Violence Prevention

posted 2/08/08 @ 10:52 AM EST

The Office for Violence Prevention (OVP) at UGA provides education and awareness programs and support and advocacy services for the campus community. The OVP is a safe haven for support, empowerment and healing for those impacted by sexual and relationship violence, stalking and sexual harassment on campus. The OVP provides an anonymous reporting form for students who have been sexually harassed or a victim of stalking, sexual and relationship violence. This form can be downloaded from the OVP website at www.uga.edu/ovp. A list of programs offered this semester dealing with these issues can be located by clicking on the calendar of events. I will be sponsoring a Sexual Harassment program on Feb. 21 at noon, room 407 in memorial hall. To learn more about this office, I encourage everyone to visit the website and/or stop by the Office for Violence Prevention, located in 116 memorial hall.

If you are the victim of domestic violence or sexual violence then you need to ALSO contact police as soon as possible. They have the real resources to put a stop to it, and yes they will protect your identity as well.

Much sexual harassment falls far below the threshold of violence. It would be a serious mistake to think that if it's not violence, it's not harassment.

Also -- if you're in a bad situation but for some reason don't want to report it (you should, especially when you can do so anonymously, but...), document *everything* just in case. If things get worse or if you decide you want to pursue things legally, you will thank yourself a hundred times.
