Abstract:
When the Bulldogs fall behind, there is only one thing for them to do.

"Crank dat."

In a craze that has swept much of the nation, the "Soulja Boy" dance has caught on in a big way with Georgia football. During home games against Ole Miss and Auburn when the Bulldogs were down, the song has cranked through the speakers and pumped up the players on the sideline, to the delight of the fans....

Sure this might be a "high-energy" song, but is anyone listening to the lyrics? It's incredibly degrading toward women.

I wonder if someone explained to Coach Richt what "superman dat ho" means if he would still support the song being played.

Have you noticed they only play the music and not the lyrics?

Not to offend anyone on either side of the board but an explanation is needed. "Superman that hoe" and "I'm too fresh up in this bitch" etc. aren't directly referencing women. Superman that hoe refers to the dance...it's basically another way to say crank the dance and the up in this bitch refers to a place. While this might not be the best choice of words, it does take an understanding of the dialect to interpret correctly. Besides, I don't remember hearing any lyrics at the game anyway.

WOW. What a sheer waste of front page space.

They aren't playing the lyrics with the song! The guys are just dancing to the beat!

Hmm, I didn't know that. I still loathe the song, though.

Originally, I was against the playing of Soulja Boy. As a middle school teacher, I am plain tired of the song. However, I love anything that gets the team pumped and united, and I am all for anything that gets the fans back into a game and rallying behind the players!

I say, keep dancing!

I'm glad Jason Johnson enjoys his dancing but he needs to keep it off the field so he won't MISSED HIS BLOCK. Like he did during the 2nd qrt kickoff.

I agree with the second comment. But truthfully I'm less and less surprised with what this paper considers newsworthy. Although with the drought in full effect the paper can't put up a front page article every couple of weeks about how yesterday's shower affected the everyday on-campus flow.

Groundbreaking. Being a college student...in Athens, I have never heard of this song. They should play it more at bars so I know what you're talking about. For another groundbreaking story that none of us know anything about, why not a story on the black jerserys?

Come on, no matter what song they had played, SOMEONE would have been offended in some way.

How come every time someone doesn't like a story, they talk about the drought? Yes we know, its big news, but how many people wanna hear stories about "another day, no rain". You can't be serious? I read almost every article every day and if the Red and Black began to do that, even I would stop reading. As a school newspaper, it is the job of the students involved to talk about interests on campus. Anyone who is B*tching needs realize that this was a good light hearted story about the growing popularity of a song and dance that has become popular with the football team. I challenge anyone who is upset with this story to start their own newspaper and every day talk about the drought...Call it "The Dry and Dusty" I don't care, but when nobody reads your stories because it's repetitive and boring, do not come running back. All people ever do is complain about the Red and Black doesn't cover "important issues" yet when the do, nobody reads it. Just shut up and enjoy. Theres always the ABH if you need some help falling asleep at night.

I personally find the song great as long as it is pumping up our players! We obviously need it! Look at the games we have played when we had some sort of gimmick! That is the team we have all been hoping for! The only complaint I have is that they play it over the loud speaker during times when The Redcoats should be playing. In my perfect world the band would learn the song and everyone would be pumped!

Good Idea

posted 11/15/07 @ 11:32 AM EST

I agree! The band would be so much more exciting if they learned to play at least one popular song a season.

I like reading articles like this. I don't care if you do think it's a waste of front page space. What else are you going to put on there? At least stories like this aren't ho hum, put you sleep on the bus.

As for the song ???, the dance, yea, Go Dawgs! Keep it pumped up. Win, lose or draw, if you play with heart and energy and stay pumped throughout the game, you'll win.

I think Mark Richt ought to do the dance if the Dawgs go to the SEC dance.
