DANCEFX TO HOST 8th ANNUAL DANCEATHENS; PROMOTE & UNIFY THE ATHENS DANCE COMMUNITY
Athens, GA, November 6, 2008 – Dancefx and Dancestyle Dancewear have teamed up to host the 8th annual DanceATHENS Dance Festival. Created in 2001 by Danielle Mason Hosker, DanceATHENS sets out to highlight and promote Athens dance groups while providing a platform to educate and entertain the Athens community.
This year's dance festival takes place November 16-22 and features workshops, classes, demonstrations and performances in jazz, Latin, tap, lyrical, hip hop, modern, ballroom, Middle Eastern, ballet, break dance and other cutting-edge styles from Athens area dance companies and guest performers. Highlighted events throughout town include an 80's Prom at Tasty World on Friday, November 21, Ballroom Workshops on Sunday, November 16, Tap Dawgs Technique class on Thursday, November 20. The festival culminates with the DanceATHENS Dance Concert on Saturday, November 22 at 7:30pm.
The DanceATHENS Dance Concert provides an opportunity for the Athens community to see a professional-level show and to fall in love with a style of dance that they may have known nothing about. The concert will feature performances by UGA Ballroom Performance Group, UGA Tap Dawgs, UGA Ballet Ensemble, CORE, Dancefx, Contact Ballroom Company, Charleston Dance Project, and Atlanta's Project Seven. ABOUT DANCEFX – Founded by Danielle Mason Hosker in 2000, Dancefx is a not-for-profit dance organization dedicated to bringing professional quality, cutting-edge dance to the Athens community, while providing a dance education and performance outlet for dancers and artist to express themselves creatively. Dancefx dancers perform nationally and internationally in such events as Jazz Dance World Congress, Piccolo Spoleto Festival, Italy's International Dance Grand Prix, The PULSE, Athens Symphony Orchestra's Pops Concert and Jazz on Tap in addition to their annual FX Spring Concert and local community events.
